Transgender Day of Remembrance: Investing in Our Community's Future
As we remember our transgender siblings who have been lost to violence, Intersex, Transgender and Transsexual People Care Association (ISTSCare) is calling on community members to invest in the long-term sustainability of our transgender community. Financial stability is a crucial step in preventing trans deaths and suicide. With the alarming rise of attacks targeting transgender individuals, combined with the severe discrimination faced in employment and education, especially among transgender youth experiencing homelessness, the survival and well-being of our community are inextricably linked.
For over a decade, ISTSCare has been working tirelessly to establish a dedicated safe space for transgender individuals that understands their unique needs. Through our suicide prevention hotline, housing and financial assistance programs, employment support, student counseling, advocacy for transgender rights, and initiatives to facilitate gender self-identificaiton, we have been addressing the critical gaps in resources caused by the neglect and persecution of transgender people.
To lay the foundation for a sustainable community fund, we urge all community members to contribute and help us build a future where our transgender community can thrive and prosper.
In recognition of the significant contributions made by transgender leaders from Indigenous Haitian Organizations to Taiwan's transgender and Indigenous transgender communities, a portion of the funds will be dedicated to strengthening the ties between the transgender communities of Taiwan and Haiti.
*We define transgender as individuals whose current gender identifications differ from their assigned gender at birth, including transgender, non-binary, Adju, two-spirit, and intersex individuals.
